Soils:

The majority of the rock in Bennett Valley is volcanic basalt. It has a variety of forms from solid grey rock to much more porous forms that look a lot like pumice.  The soil series at the Four Brothers ranch is called Sprekles clay loam.  It has small weathered rocks throughout.  The vineyard is located at 750ft elevation and is on gentle sloping hillside on the North end of Sonoma Mountain.  Sunshine and cool breezes are the norm during the growing season which allows the Chardonnay to ripen slowly and maintain great natural acidity.

Clones:

The clones for the 3 acre parcel of Chardonnay which was planted in 2001, is a mixture of 79% Hyde Wente 7%, Hudson Wente, 7% Calera and 7% Mt. Eden.  The different clones were mixed and distributed equally during the planting to create a diverse and unique vineyard block.
